Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are great at combating depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and be happy!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.

Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling famished can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were just expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
